Mount Argus Development, Harold’s Cross

KDS Fire & Security combined system expertise with close attention to detail at the exclusive Mount Argus development, sourcing top-of-the-line systems and installing them sympathetically to the complex’s high design standards.

A successful development needs many trades and suppliers working in harmony, and on a large-scale project like Mount Argus in Harold’s Cross, Dublin 6W, that number multiplies. The complex has 16 blocks containing 179 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, eleven standalone duplexes and communal areas including a cinema and gym, all delivered to a budget and a tight timeline.

KDS Fire & Security was appointed to install the CCTV, intercom and access control systems throughout the development, working in tandem with electrical contractor Kieran Callaghan Electrical Ltd.

“We had worked with Kerry Duddy and the KDS team before and were impressed with their approach. Their attention to detail and expertise was exactly what we needed for the Mount Argus development,” said Padraig Reilly of Kieran Callaghan Electrical.

Premium access control

Security was critical in this high-end complex. KDS sourced an ACT access control system covering 50 doors. Residents use swipe cards to access their block, timed zones restrict areas such as the gym outside set hours, and the system is linked to the fire alarm so designated doors unlock automatically in a fire.

User-friendly intercoms to match the design

KDS sourced a Comelit intercom system with entrance panels at each of the 16 blocks and 179 video monitors in the apartments. Access control readers are built into the back of the entrance panels for a clean, unobtrusive finish, and wide-angle cameras let residents see callers even when they stand away from the panel.

Development-wide CCTV

To give residents an extra layer of reassurance, KDS worked with RWL Security Solutions to design a Hikvision IP CCTV system. Around 134 cameras cover every entrance, exit and common area, with a further 20 in the basement car park. Operators can zoom and adjust camera angles remotely, and footage is recorded across four network video recorders.

Managed efficiently, finished without snags

The project ran for two years. “Kerry and the team did an excellent job of managing the installation of all the systems. Their expertise was clear at the end of the project when their work had no snags. Everything was completed to a very high standard and the installation was sympathetic to the overall design of the complex. Importantly for us, they delivered on time and on budget,” said Padraig.
