G4S Monitoring operates at the cutting edge of security technology and is one of Ireland’s leading providers of commercial premises protection. At KDS Fire & Security, our customers’ experience of the G4S systems we install has been consistently positive. Here is why.
Why monitoring matters
Homes and businesses are left unattended for many reasons, but the risk of a break-in never goes away. A burglary is a traumatic experience, often leaving people feeling bewildered, invaded and insecure long afterwards. While no one can guarantee you won’t be targeted, you can significantly reduce the risk.
A well-designed intruder and hold-up alarm installed by a licensed contractor is a strong deterrent. But most alarms simply sound an external bell or siren, regulations limit how long they may sound, and they are often ignored. Monitoring is the better answer.
How monitoring works
A monitored alarm is connected to a licensed 24-hour Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC), which ensures an immediate response to every alarm event. Real alarms are passed to the relevant emergency service – the Gardaí, the fire brigade or a contracted response service – while false and nuisance alarms are filtered in line with regulations and the criteria you agree.
- Your control panel detects a change at one or more sensors
- It identifies whether the sensor is an intruder, fire or panic device
- It transmits the event to the Alarm Receiving Centre
- Your details are displayed on the G4S monitoring platform
- G4S operators establish the nature of the event and follow your agreed response, including contacting keyholders
- Agreed protocols are followed to eliminate false and nuisance alarms
- Every action is logged, including voice recordings of all calls
Why not SMS alerts?
Cheaper alternatives rely on SMS messages, which can arrive late or not at all. Since most damage and loss happens in the first few minutes of a burglary, a professionally monitored service is the reliable choice.
Signalling options
Most monitoring runs over the standard telephone network or IP. For added security, signals can also be sent via GSM, radio or G4S’s own Mesh radio network.
Licensing and Garda response
All alarm receiving centres are licensed by the Private Security Authority and must comply with I.S. 228 and SR 41. The Gardaí will only respond to monitored systems that meet current Garda requirements. G4S Monitoring (Ire) Limited, established in 1981, operates a modern alarm receiving centre licensed by the PSA (Licence No. PSA00544).
