Since the introduction of the EN 54-25 standard, wireless fire detection has become a genuine alternative to wired systems. KDS Fire & Security is a trusted installer of the EMS FireCell wireless system.
FireCell was the first wireless fire system to meet the European EN 54-25 standard, and every component conforms to it.
“We’ve arrived at a point where wireless fire detection is as reliable as wired. Systems like FireCell use dual-channel communication, where both channels transmit and receive, which removes the confusion and distortion of older single-channel designs,” explains Kerry Duddy, founder of KDS Fire & Security. “We wanted a system we could confidently stand behind, and FireCell gives our customers peace of mind that it works to the highest standards.”
No wires, seamless extension
FireCell detectors communicate with the control panel by radio, so no cabling is required. New devices can be added in minutes by placing them and registering them on the panel, ideal for businesses that are expanding.
For one customer, a Dublin bakery, KDS installed FireCell in record time. “There was no drilling and no disruption to the business. As he grows he can add new devices, or take the whole system with him if he moves,” says Kerry.
Ideal for heritage buildings
FireCell is popular in heritage and protected buildings where drilling and cabling are restricted. KDS has installed it in several Georgian houses in Dublin now used as flats, using a hybrid approach that combined existing fire-rated cable with wireless devices. “We installed the system with limited disruption to tenants while maintaining the integrity of these old buildings.”
Schools, hotels and more
Wireless systems are also well suited to schools, where a full installation can be completed during a mid-term break, and hotels, where rooms can be fitted without closing them or losing revenue.
“What I like about FireCell is that it’s extremely stable and easy to set up. Depending on the premises it can be installed and commissioned in under a day, compared with one to two weeks for a wired system. Parts are readily available, and you’re not locked into proprietary batteries,” says Kerry.
